MY SUPERFOOD SMOOTHIES
Smoothies, do you like them? Superfood Smoothies? What is your favorite? I have several favorites, just can’t seem to narrow down to only one. Do you make them yourself or do you get them elsewhere?
Not hard to do at home, you will need a high-speed blender and the ingredients of course. If you get your smoothie fix other than home, check the ingredients. Likely more sugar than a few jelly donuts. And we know how good those are for us and our waist lines.
I’ve never had a superfood smoothie out anywhere, I have had my share of milkshakes. Some of the thing I have heard leads me to think some of the smoothie sold in restaurants are just milkshakes made with new flavors. Could be wrong. Do you believe I am?
Superfood Smoothies Calories ?
My smoothies have no refined sugar added to them. And very little dairy. Some of the items used have sugar in them, but I add none. A need for added sweetness occurs, I will add an appropriate number of Medjool Dates or I may use Stevia.
I use almond milk, both original and chocolate. Dark chocolate if I can find it. These have 50% more calcium than dairy milk. The unsweetened natural almond milk has 30 calories per cup and no sugar, the chocolate has 18g of sugar. The plain yogurt I use has 13g sugars per cup.
The calorie count on smoothies varies and your head can take to spinning trying to figure it out. Most of mine round in the 300 to 350 calories for 16 oz.

I put my ingredient in the recipe section and the number of servings and boom, there is the calorie count. This is the easiest way I have found and I believe you will find it so. Please let me know if you have or find a better way. Leave a comment below.
I use lots of fruit in mine, I buy the 3 pound bags of frozen Strawberries, Pineapple and Blueberries. Freeze my own bananas. Each month, maybe more. ok, usually more. Had to buy a small freezer, just for the smoothie ingredients.
The smoothie recipes and insight from the author, make this an enjoyable read. As well as a valuable resource.
Smoothies are in a category by themselves. Replace a meal with a smoothie and you will lose weight. And even better when teamed with superfoods. You can add more fiber to your diet with superfood smoothies, which helps reduce the risk of colon cancer and heart disease.
Making a superfood smoothie is faster than making a meal, easy choice? I would say so.
You start making superfood smoothies and you start getting better at it, asking friends over for a smoothie. Bringing smoothies to work to pass around samples.
Next thing you know, you’re looking at that empty store front and wondering……. could I make a living making smoothies? Wow would that be cool?
Could I sell smoothies online?
You will have mistakes, too sour, too icy, not icy enough or taste horrible. You can fix most of these rather easily.
HOW DO YOU MAKE A SMOOTHIE?
First you need the right equipment, a high-speed blender capable of crushing ice, will do anything that making a smoothie would require.
Ninja Blender Duo
I use a Ninja Blender Duo with Auto-IQ. There are buttons for the usual low, med, high and puree. But also has buttons for Frozen drinks-smoothies, Nutra Ninja Blend and Nutra Ninja Ultra Blend, both of last two have Auto IQ.
The Auto IQ is a program where you press the button and the blender does the blending automatically.
The speeds of the blades changes automatically, causing the fluid to rise and drop and mixing everything perfectly. This is done by changing the blade speed automatically. Works excellent, haven’t lost a smoothie yet.
No stopping and removing the blades so you can reposition ingredients to blend better. More likely you may have to add liquid to keep from freezing, but not often.
The blender cups that come with the Duo, are what I use most. There are other sizes available if not in stores, then online. Amazon, of course. Saw that coming didn’t you?
The blender comes with a 72oz pitcher and two 24oz blender cups.
I purchased, from Ninja, a 32oz blender cup. The cups are great, they have screw on sippy cup like tops. And being different sizes I can often make two smoothies back to back. Crazy?
Julie Morris the Superfood Smoothie Master
You should have some smoothie recipes in addition to the hardware.
There is a book that I used a lot when I was just starting. “SUPERFOOD SMOOTHIES” by Julie Morris. Taught me a lot about what I know today. Always make your superfood smoothie recipes your own. You will see things in any recipe that you don’t want or have. Improvise, no written rules. Importantly, her book is definitely a needed read. My advise is to purchase the hard cover. Quite certain that it will become your favorite superfood smoothie reference book.
