GOOD, BAD and the “You Have to be Kidding”
First, a few statistics. Right now, there are about 2/3 overweight and obese people, men and women. Overweight is a BMI of 25 to 30 and obese is defined as a BMI of over 30. You can check your BMI below. Just need to know your height and weight. Now the BMI charts are not the end all, they can be off, particularly with people carrying a lot of muscle. If you plan to lose weight, you need to know where you’re starting from.

IS THERE A SILVER BULLET?
You would think so, many people believe so, lots of ads claim to have the silver bullet and will try to convince you how inexpensive it is for you. You see their ads in print, television, emails and the web. Blatant lies and exaggerations, many of them, most of them.
This person or that lost 17 lbs. in 30 days, or 130 lbs. in 90 days or 42 lbs. in 30 days. I do not doubt that they have found a few people that have had some success. But these rates of weight loss are sometimes unsafe and unhealthy.
A safe and healthy weight loss is 1.5 to 2.0 lbs. per week. In any case, you should be seeing your doctor taking the doctors advise.
IFD
Intermittent fasting diets. Also, known as IER=intermittent energy restriction or ICR=intermittent calorie restriction. Obviously, there is some restriction going on with these, most diets have some.
HOW IT WORKS
Most use a 5:2, 5 days of eating and two fasting. Eat normally for five days and then only 500 calories the next two. (fasting) 500 calories are very little Doctors will not usually put someone on a low-calorie (under 1000 calories) diet, except in rare circumstances.
Generally, someone obese with a serious health concern, then the patient is very closely monitored. Getting the proper nutrition at such a restrictive calorie diet will be difficult at best.
PROS OF FASTING
There are no banned foods, on your days to eat, eat it all!!! Well, not all, within calorie limits.
You choose what days to fast.
You choose how to use your allotted calories.
CONS OF FASTING
Hard to be sure you’re getting proper nutrition on fasting days.
Difficult to do anything physical due to lack of energy, tired.
Mentally may have trouble focusing on fasting days
This diet is not sustainable in my opinion, does not seem like a long-range solution.

CLA, conjugated linoleic acid is also an antioxidant in addition to being an essential fatty acid. Cancer fighting may be in CLA as antioxidant, there are studies that show a reduction in colorectal cancer and lower risk of breast cancer. This was with women that got a lot of CLA in their diet. The foods that contain CLA are mostly dairy and meat. (cows, lamb and goat). Kangaroo meat has the highest concentration of any meat.
CLA has been shown to lower LDL (bad cholesterol), but at the same it lowers HDL (good cholesterol), making it no good for that application.
It is complicated, CLA might help the obese. It may help people feel fuller after eating. May decrease body fat, however does not seem to lower BMI or weight.
CLA has a lot of may, might and seems associated with it, may you feel like your gambling?
CLA-SAFFLOWER
This brand of CLA is relatively new. Claiming miraculous weight loss. Also, that this pill will make you feel energized, comfortable and just plain better. This is because the pills will suppress appetite, increase serotonin and blocks fat as they say. Of course, there is no listing of what is in these pills, or who is the manufacturer. Also, claiming this will improve your metabolism. Adding some lean muscle will do the same and so much more.
Of course, losing weight by any means you choose, will make you feel better and more energized and likely happier and probably healthier.
A study reported in the Dietary Guidelines for Americans in 2010 stated: “women eating 1200 calories to lose weight need about 17 grams of oils daily, men eating 1600 calories to lose weight need about 22 grams” All we know is that they claim there is 1000mg in each liquid-gel.

I don’t believe in fairy tales. Supplements, pills, whatever cannot make you the better, than you can do yourself.

APPLE CIDER VINEGAR
This stuff has been around forever. I always thought it was just apple juice gone bad. Sore throat and I don’t know what else ACV has been used for over the years. Except those uses we eat. ACV may be in your cupboard right now. How about that, you have the weight loss miracle right there all along.
ACV has been used as a remedy since time of the old Roman and Greeks and the chariots. Modern times, people have used ACV for salad dressing, baking, cooking or as a preservative.
But for weight loss? Mix about 2 tablespoons of ACV with tea or water, honey or lemon and drink before meals. This will lead to weight loss? Very little scientific support for that claim.
There have been a few limited studies done in Japan. One found that ACV may help reduce obesity. Another shows insulin and blood levels improvement in participants with type 2 diabetes. Acv contains Polyphenols, an antioxidant that helps curb cell damage.
ACV could lower potassium levels and muscles need potassium to work properly. Also as with all supplements there is the possibility of interaction or interference with medications prescribed to you.
There is just nothing here or that I can find that says this will work and more likely a chance some harm could come from this plan.

I am definitely bookmarking your site as I’ve been a proponent of non-dieting diets forever, it seems. For me, it comes down to balancing calorie intake with what type of exercise is done. If you are sedentary then you can guess you will gain weight if you’re eating out of control.
I like the GPS watch you have advertised and will be taking a closer look at it as I love to walk, run and move when I’m not working. Thanks for the site.
Thanks for t he comment. Balancing calories in/out is the basis. There is more as far as nutrition. The main requirement is to get moving. And ignore the diet pill pushers. I also like to walk and find my fitness watch is a great tool, sound like you will find one helpful also.
